The book "BELOVED"

BelovedBeloved by Toni Morrison

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The book i have just got done reading is "BELOVED" by toni morrison. It's published by the penguin group in 1987.Set in 1873 just after the clivil war.It is based on the story of the African-American slave, Margaret Garner, who escaped slavery in 1856 in Kentucky by fleeing to Ohio, a free state. A posse arrived to retrieve her ,and her children under the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which gave slave owners the right to pursue slaves across state borders. Margaret killed her two-year-old daughter rather than allow her to be recaptured.

I think that toni morrison is one of our greatest writters we have ever had.A book like this set her apart from all the other writtes.I loved how in her book you could really like see the whole think in your mind while reading. From the first word sethe says to the last word you hear you see it place in your mind. It's like being inside her mind.In 2011, the book was placed on Time Magazine's top 100 non-fiction books written in English since 1923.THan in 1988 won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction

Sethe, kills her daughter and tries to kill her other three children when a posse arrives in Ohio to return them to Sweet Home, the plantation in Kentucky from which Sethe had recently fled. The daughter, Beloved, returns years later to haunt the house in which she was killed, Sethe's home at 124 Bluestone Road, Cincinnati. The story opens with an introduction to the ghost: "124 was spiteful. Full of a baby's venom."The book have themes such a mother-daughter realtonship, and also the inpact that slavery can have on someone who had to do things like that so that her own daughter wouldnt have to go back into being a slave, and have to feel like she was nothing.

I didnt like that she had to kill her own daughter just for her to not be a slave.I though that was a really sad part in the book for me because she was only a two year old child.I really liked that the book was based on someone real life and its her story oh how she went throug slavery and how after runing away how the dears kept bothering her.It made it think alot because i didnt think a mothers would do things like that just for there own children to not be slave.I learned alot about this book and it made me really think about how slave were and how sad it was for them and there own children too.

I think this book is for learning more about slavery and what it is like to be free. How you have to do something you dont want to just to keep your love one safe.I really learned something from this book.I love the way it was written and i think everyone should read it.
